Goethe-Zertifikat A1 (Start German 1) Exam Schedule
The official list below shows reserved time periods, not exams that have been confirmed. Please confirm with your instructor whether or not the final exam for a course will be held during this time period.
Be sure to read the Goethe exam rules and guidelines on each exam page before making a decision to register. Also, be sure to register with the correct exam level.
Locations
The Exam Schedule lists locations where DEP conducts operator certification exams. Check out the individual exam pages for more details regarding exam content, exam terms and conditions, and additional guidelines. If you require special accommodations due to chronic illness or visual or hearing impairment, contact the exam provider directly and be sure to provide a detailed document when you register.
Faculty can find their exam times via the "View My Teaching Schedule" task on the Faculty Dashboard in Workday. Additionally the Registrar's Office has a list of exam times for classes in which an exam is required by NYSED regulations. For evening classes final exams are scheduled at the regular class meeting time during the week of the exam.
Please be aware that the Projected University Examination Schedule is only a guideline and that exam dates are subject to change.
Registration
Students are advised to check the exam schedule online. However it is important to keep in mind that the final exam schedule can be altered at any time. Students should therefore check with their instructors to confirm the correct date and time of their exam. Students should also be sure to print out the official list and bring it with them to their exam.
Students should also familiarize themselves with the rules and conditions of the exam, in addition to the schedule. These are on the page for each exam. Students acknowledge they have read and accepted the terms and conditions of registration.
Exam locations try their best to accommodate those who have special needs. The nature and degree of these requirements must be declared on the registration form and verified by a doctor's attestation. The exam locations must also adhere to confidentiality.
If a student has three examinations scheduled for the same day it is suggested to contact their department or instructor to schedule a make-up exam. Although it is possible to take three exams in a single day, this can cause high stress levels and can impact the quality of the test. Students should review the course material prior to taking the test and work on their German skills. The test is a paper-based test which tests the ability to speak, read, and write in German. The results of the examination are presented using a scale ranging from A1 to C2. Students who successfully pass the test receive the Goethe-Zertifikat. The certificate documents attainment of the language level A1. This level is the first level of the six-level scale of competence that is outlined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Foreign Languages. The exam is free. Students must bring a valid government issued ID to the test. Students who do not have a valid picture ID will be disqualified.

Fees
You'll need to pay an examination fee for the opportunity to receive the Goethe-Zertifikat (start German 1) after you have completed your Elan Academy studies. This is in addition to the course fee.
Practice tests allow you to get a feel for the style of the questions, their wording, and the difficulty of the questions on the test. They can help you evaluate your understanding, find areas of weakness and increase your chances of passing the test.
Please be aware that the exam fee is not refundable. Exam results are only electronically sent, not via phone.
